This worksheet from Heathrun Advances in Decatur, Alabama converts an equipment lease factor into a monthly payment and a total of payments, explains money factors, and shows how to set a lease quote beside a loan. It is arithmetic only on the numbers you supply, not an offer or a quote; funding partners set the actual factor and terms.
Lease Factor Rate Calculator for Machine Shops and Plants
Equipment lessors often quote a lease rate factor, a small decimal such as 0.0195, instead of an interest rate. The arithmetic is simple:
- Monthly payment = equipment price x lease factor.
- Total of payments = monthly payment x number of months.
- Cost over the price = total of payments - equipment price.
- Add the end-of-lease buyout, if you plan to keep the equipment.
| Line | Example | Your numbers |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment price | $185,000 | |
| Lease factor | 0.0195 | |
| Monthly payment (price x factor) | $3,607.50 | |
| Term in months | 60 | |
| Total of payments | $216,450 | |
| Total as a multiple of price | 1.17 |
Illustration only, invented figures: the table shows a $185,000 machining center at a factor of 0.0195 over 60 months (our arithmetic). The total of payments is 1.17 times the price before any buyout or fees.
Money Factor Rate Calculator for Morgan County, AL Gas Stations, Grocers and Diners
A money factor is a different number used mostly in vehicle leasing: it expresses the lease's finance charge, and multiplying it by 2,400 gives an approximate annual percentage rate. Illustration only, invented figures: a money factor of 0.00375 works out to about 9.0% (our arithmetic: 0.00375 x 2,400). Do not confuse it with a lease rate factor, which already includes the depreciation of the equipment.
For a fuel stop, a grocery or a diner leasing coolers or a delivery van, ask the lessor which kind of factor it is quoting.
How Machine Shops and Plants Read the Result
A lease factor makes quotes easy to compare only when the terms match. Two quotes at different factors but different terms, buyouts or fees cannot be compared on the factor alone; compare totals instead. Fabricated metal product employers in Morgan County, AL numbered 39 in 2023 (County Business Patterns), and a shop pricing a machine can set a lease total beside a loan's total of payments plus down payment from equipment financing.
- Same term and buyout: the lower factor comes to a smaller total.
- Different terms: compare totals, and the payment against the shop's cash flow.
- Fair-market-value lease: the buyout is unknown, so the total is incomplete.
- $1 buyout lease: the total of payments plus $1 is the full cost.
A Labeled Example for Gas Stations, Grocers and Diners
Illustration only, invented figures: a convenience store leases a $24,000 walk-in cooler at a factor of 0.0225 for 48 months. The payment is $540 a month and the total of payments is $25,920, or 1.08 times the price (our arithmetic). If the lease is a fair-market-value lease, add the expected buyout to that total before comparing it with a loan.
The worksheet stops at arithmetic. It does not include taxes, insurance, documentation fees or maintenance, and it does not say what factor a lessor would offer.
After the Worksheet: Turning the Numbers Into a Request
Bring the quote, the factor and your worksheet total to the conversation. Heathrun Advances passes the request to funding partners, which set the factor and terms and decide on the request. Machine shop loans and restaurant loans cover two trades that lease often, and the guides page lists the rest.
